Summary
La Bohème tells the story of four struggling young artists in Paris in the late 1880’s. Rodolfo the poet falls in love with Mimì, a seamstress, while Marcello the painter is in a tempestuous relationship with Musetta. Rodolfo and Mimì have a short period of happiness but separate because he is convinced their poverty will exacerbate her tuberculosis. Some months later when Mimì is very ill, she returns to the home Rodolfo shares with the other artists. They relive their first meeting and are reconciled, but it is too late. Mimì dies and Rodolfo falls weeping at her side.

Notes
Following the success of his 2003 production of La Bohème, our Director of Productions Wayne Morris redirects Puccini’s most popular opera for our 2009 season. He collaborates with costume designer Nicola Jackson once again for a truly spectacular production. The talented young Australian Soprano Catherine Bouchier makes her debut with Diva Opera in the role of Mimì and we welcome Nicholas Ransley back for a second season to sing Rodolfo. Diva Opera favourites David Stephenson, Matthew Hargreaves, Freddie Tong and Daniel Howard complete the line-up of impoverished students and Catriona Clark will charm audiences with her portrayal of Musetta. We are also delighted to announce that Alan Fairs who sings regularly in principal roles with Welsh National Opera as well as performing with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera and Scottish Opera, will join the cast as Benoît and Alcindoro.
