When Johann Strauss wrote Die Fledermaus in 1874, he began a tradition of adding extra music to the second Act, the Party Scene. Later it became common practice to incorporate various different acts as special guests at Prince Orlofsky’s party.

The Party Scene from Die Fledermaus
The scene is set by Dr. Falke who is keen to punish his old friend Gabriel von Eisenstein for a practical joke he once played on him.

He has invited the following guests to Prince Orlofsky’s party and promises the Prince an evening of entertainment at their expense:

Adele, the Eisenstein’s chambermaid – who has stolen one of her Mistress’s dresses in order to join the party; her sister Ida, a would-be actress; Gabriel Von Eisenstein, due to start a prison sentence for a minor misdemeanour at midnight and keen to have a final fling; Eisenstein’s wife Rosalinde, who thinks he’s already in prison and Police Officer Albert Frank, responsible for Eisenstein’s imminent incarceration.

Combine the ingredients, stir gently, and wait for passions to rise! A fun-filled evening incorporating Johann Strauss’s delightful melodies with a selection of favourite classical arias and ensembles sung by Diva Opera principal artists.

Operatic superstars to appear in the party scene for two performances:
We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by two international opera stars for our production of The Party Scene from Die Fledermaus on two occasions this year.  In March we will be joined by the world-famous soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and in June the tenor Jose Carreras will join us for the eighth time since 2002. They will appear as special guests and thrill audiences with a selection of their favourite arias and songs.
